RSVP – for Individuals Age 55+
RSVP is your invitation to serve. You’ve gained a lifetime of experience. Now is the time to put your skills and talents to good use by volunteering through the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).
RSVP is America’s largest volunteer network for people age 55 and over with nearly 500,000 volunteers across the country. Funded by the Corporation for National and Community Service and Legacy Link Area Agency on Aging, over 400 RSVP volunteers serve in a variety of volunteer positions at non-profit and government agencies throughout ten counties in North Georgia. RSVP links those in need with those who serve.
Volunteer opportunities vary from weekly service to a few times per year. We currently have placement options in Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Towns, Union, and White counties. Opportunities vary in each county and include supporting older adults and providing services at non-profit agencies. 770-538-2650
Eligibility
You can enroll in RSVP if you meet the following requirements
- 55 years of age or over
- willing to serve on a regular basis without compensation
- enjoy working with others to solve community problems
- willing to accept supervision as required
Benefits

Volunteer Assignments
- Deliver Meals on Wheels
- Telephone / Visit older adults
- Inform Medicare beneficiaries about insurance benefits
- Mentor youth
- Provide respite care for caregivers
- Advocate for seniors in nursing homes and personal care facilities
- Teach activities to older adults
- Perform Disaster Preparedness activities
- Provide administrative/clerical support at non-profits/government agencies

We couldn’t have hosted such a wonderful event without the assistance of the Gainesville State College Social Science students who helped decorate, served lunch, and assisted the guests.
Volunteer of the Year Treva Farris (r) spends all her time at the SAFE thrift store in Blairsville making sure all the items are categorized and displayed attractively in a way to facilitate sales. Proceeds go to fund the abuse shelter managed by the non-profit organization Support in Abusive Family Emergencies (SAFE). We all appreciate Treva’s upbeat personality and her efforts to make sure that families in need have a safe place to go.
Station of the Year award was presented to Kathy Hill (center), Union County Senior Center Director, by Dottie Suchke, RSVP Director, and Lamar Gailey, Community Programs Director at Legacy Link, Area Agency on Aging. The Senior Center had the honor of having the most RSVP volunteers serve in the past year and also enrolled the most new RSVP volunteers in the north Georgia service area.
