Legacy Link is proud to announce the distribution of $5,000 in Senior Hunger Mini Grants to two outstanding organizations: VFW Post 7807 in Hiawassee, GA, and The Place of Forsyth. These grants will aid in combating senior hunger and ensuring that older adults in our communities have access to nutritious meals and essential resources.

Supporting Senior Hunger Initiatives

These mini grants are designed to support local organizations working to reduce food insecurity among seniors. By providing funding for community-driven initiatives, Legacy Link reinforces its commitment to enhancing the well-being of older adults throughout the region.

  • The Place of Forsyth County – Awarded $2,500, The Place will focus on “Today’s Seniors” by enhancing food access through its Homebound Senior Outreach Program. This initiative serves 25-30 homebound seniors weekly across Dawson and Forsyth counties, addressing their physical, emotional, and cognitive needs. By providing weekly food deliveries, the program helps alleviate food insecurity while allowing seniors to allocate limited income toward other essential expenses. Additionally, it fosters social engagement as seniors interact with delivery staff and volunteers, helping to prevent isolation and promote cognitive well-being. Beyond food support, the program connects seniors with essential resources and coordinates home repairs and maintenance, enabling them to age in place safely and with dignity.
  • VFW Post 7807 (Hiawassee, GA) – Also awarded $2,500, this organization will address both “Today’s Seniors” and the “Health Impact of Senior Hunger” through its Honour Our Veterans – Operation Nourishment for Our Heroes This initiative will provide grocery store gift cards to older veterans within Northeast Georgia, ensuring they have access to nutritious food. By targeting veterans experiencing food insecurity, the VFW aims to locate and support those in need, ensuring they receive the assistance they deserve.
