At Legacy Link, our mission is to support and advocate for aging adults and individuals with disabilities to be their link to a better life. Each day, we work to empower individuals across Northeast Georgia to live fuller, healthier, and more independent lives.
As we observe Disability Awareness Month this July, we reaffirm that commitment and invite you to join us in building a more inclusive and supportive community.
Why Disability Awareness Month Matters
First recognized in 1990—the same year the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law—Disability Awareness Month is a time to celebrate progress, reflect on challenges, and advocate for equity. It serves as a reminder that accessibility, inclusion, and dignity are fundamental rights for all.
This month is also an opportunity to listen and learn—from individuals with lived experience, from advocates pushing for change, and from service providers working every day to remove barriers in healthcare, housing, employment, and daily life.
Celebrating Strength, Resilience, and Impact
Throughout July, we honor the contributions of people with disabilities who strengthen and enrich our communities—through leadership, caregiving, creativity, and advocacy. Their resilience and innovation inspire us and guide the work we do.
At Legacy Link, we believe everyone deserves the opportunity to thrive. Our programs are built on that belief, ensuring individuals of all abilities have access to the resources and support they need to live with dignity and independence.
Expanding Opportunity: SCSEP and Disability Inclusion
One of the key ways Legacy Link supports individuals with disabilities is through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP). This program provides part-time, paid training for adults aged 55 and older who face barriers to employment, including those living with disabilities.
SCSEP participants are placed with nonprofit or public organizations where they develop job skills, increase confidence, and prepare for future employment. For individuals with disabilities, SCSEP offers a structured, supportive pathway to reenter the workforce, build financial stability, and stay engaged in community life.
By promoting economic self-sufficiency and meaningful participation, SCSEP plays a vital role in advancing inclusion.
Our Impact in 2024
We encourage you to explore our 2024 Annual Report, which highlights the progress made and the individuals served over the past year. With the support of dedicated staff, community partners, and generous supporters, Legacy Link has expanded services to meet the evolving needs of the community.
This year’s highlights include:
- Over 350,000 meals delivered to homebound individuals
- 435,636 labor hours worked through the Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP)
- $79,670.93 cost savings for clients during Medicare open enrollment
